EM help needed: How does your Dragonette start up?

I am finishing up work on a Dragonette, and I am puzzled about one thing. When a game starts, does the Ball Release close right away after startup, or do you have to play a ball and hit a certain item on the play field? I have to hit the 25 point roll-over before the Ball Release will close. Please let me know how your game works! It is not clear from the schematic.

I have 2 Dragonettes but unfortunately neither is set up right now but u could be correct.
I was thinking you had to hit a pop bumper, but you do have to hit something for the door to close.
