So just got my 1st pin & am hooked!!:D Have a 1980 Gottlieb Amazin
Spiderman that right 5 drop target reset coil keeps powered on when th
game is on so much that it very hot to the touch and smells like burnin
plastic. The drop targets won't work either. I changed the original coi
(A-17891). The new coil is heating up now (but turn off game before i
gets warm), and the drop targets reset though when you power up the pin
They do not work in game play though, so the coil just heats up. I hav
disconnected the coil. The switches have all been checked, and none ar
touching that I could see. All test were run. Switch test results - 00
10, 20, 30, & 40, The solenoid test - 2, 5, & 6. The three (3
mulit-bouns light are the only ones not lighting up during the ligh
test. Do the two (2) bumper boards under the playfield control these
Could that be bad? The drop target assembly is functioning, and nothin
broke or not connected on it. What can cause the coil to heat, and dro
target not to function? Any help would be great. Thanks!!!

Also, looking for any parts to this pin. Especially a good conditio
playfield, and possibly a bac
glass.*__Finders_fee_for_the_playfield_if_purchased!!!!!:D_

Drop target reset solenoids are controlled by
the driver board. Drivers often fail due to ground
problems on the System 80 platoform. You probably need
to repair the driver transistor (and possibly the pre-driver),
and then fix the root cause (bad interboard connectors and
the System 80 ground mods). Bad solenoid drivers are often
shorted, which causes the coil to be energized at all times.

Pop bumpers are each controlled by their own pop bumper
driver board, mounted underneath the playfield.

Sounds like the transistor that drives the drop target solenoid is
shorted. Check your schematics and see which transistor is driving
it. The pop bumper boards only drive pop bumpers. I would also check
the driver board to see if that's why your bonus lights are out.

What the others said. I am working on a Spidey right now. The drive
transistors are most likely bad and need replaced. However, make sure
you do the ground mods (can be found on the John's Jukes site) or it
will happen again. Also, those insulation discplacement connectors
are prone to failure - I am in the process of replacing all the
connectors in my machine right now. Also, if the lights aren't
working make sure to check the light sockets too! Good luck.
