Post by Lloyd OlsonPost by LexingtonVAPinWith Fliptronics 2, Williams put the snubber diode on the Fliptronics board.
It there any reason to also leave it on the flipper coil?

Yes. So you don't blow out transistors or have the coil lock on when you flip it.

Lloyd, the Fliptronics 2 board has the snubber diodes on the Fliptronics
board. D17 - D24 serve the purpose of the diodes on the coil. That
makes the coil diodes redundant.
We have had a TAF blow out the coil driver transistors on a couple of
occasions when the diode broke on the coil.
But on Fliptronics 2 games, we have never had that happen.

In other words it is a backup to the fliptronic board and can be left in
place as long as the coil is wired correctly.

I have no problem leaving them in place. On the IJ that I am doing the
playfield transfer for, some previous hacker did a horrible job of
soldering the diodes.
I was wondering if I could just clip them off.
I always wondered why DE/Sega/Stern with their great (IMHO) computer
controlled flipper boards did not include the snubber diodes on the
board. I have had Whitestar systems blow IRL540's because of broken
flipper coil diodes.
