WILLIAMS "PINCH HITTER" PITCH AND BAT QUESTIONS
(too old to reply)

Hi,

I recently acquired a nice Deluxe Pinch Hitter pitch and bat (Williams,
1959). All cleaned up and working great.

Three questions:

Does anybody have a source for the rectangular black rubber tube that
goes over the bat that hits the balls? Mine is in two pieces, now
glued together. The rubber is old and dried-up.

If you have a Pinch Hitter, does it have the molded nylon bat or the
steel one with the black rubber tube cover? I have seen both on
Williams games of that era, according to Marvellous Marvin's site.

Is there any other paperwork for the game, besides the schematic?
Anything like a manual that explains the set-up of the match, high
score and "spell pinch hitter" replays?

Thanks for any and all info on this game, or leads on sources of parts!

You might take the bat to an auto parts store and go over all the black
tubing for gas and brake lines etc. and see if you find something the right
size. Usually cheap and you can get a foot or two and have plenty to spare.

Lloyd,

I'll give that a try, it's just that in all the auto work I have done,
I have never seen a hose or tube with flat sides like the bat rubber.

Don,

Congrats on your find. Pinch Hitter is one of the best baseball games
Wililams ever made.

My game has a molded nylon bat on it. I really think the metal blade
with the rubber cover on it is an older style. At any rate the nylon
will work fine on you game.

Not sure what info you are looking for on the features.

If you beat the displayed high score you win 5 replays. The high
score can be reset with a button that is inside the front door.

The Pinch Hitter spell name feature works as follows. Each grand slam
home run lights the next letter in the name. When you light the R you
win 5 replays and the feature resets.

Now you may be saying, well it's tough to get a grand slam. But that
is another neat feature of the game (as you may already know). If you
have the bases loaded with two outs any hit scores as a home run and
therefore a grand slam. This is why the game is named Pinch Hitter.

I have the metal bat on mine. Have nylon on 62' world series and grand
slam. Where can we find the red ramps and other parts for these games.
I order the bat coil from steve at PR. Have fun with the game. I really
enjoy the baseball games. Change of pace from pins and jukes.

Thanks,
Bret

Pinch Hitter should have a metal bat.
The reason is simple - it's the last williams EM
pitch and bat that uses 7/8" balls. Starting with
Official baseball in 1960, williams changed to
the smaller 3/4" ball. With this change they also
used the plastic nylon bat.

If you use 7/8" balls in the pinch hitter with
a plastic bat, you'll destroy the bat. it just can't
handle the weight and size of the 7/8" balls.

Thanks everybody for their input. That has answered a lot of my
questions. I'll look into the rubber bat cover and if i find a good
substitute i will share it with the group.

Thanks again to all,
