Discussion:
Why does my flipper cause an airball

I have one flipper that loves to launch the ball in the air, seems
like when its coming at it fast, and you flip it, it will send the
ball sometimes to glass. More often then not it will throw the ball
about a foot before it lands, all the while skipping about 3-4 inches
off the playfield.

New coils (correct ones), new rebuild kit, new flipper bats, and new
rubbers...

Any thoughts,
BP

Try one size weaker coil on that side. LTG :)

The rubber may be installed to low. Make sure it is above the
ridge...

Had the same thing happen to me and that was the problem. Flipper
rubber was a little too low. Raise it up on the flipper bat and see
if that helps. Also check for cracks in the new bat. That happened
to me as well and caused ridiculous air balls.

Validated its not too low.
I'll change the coil out after dinner, just seems odd.

Thanks for everyones help and suggestions.

Is the flipper bushing broken? Are all three screws and nuts present
on the bushing too. Its the white piece that sticks through the
playfield. (I never understood why they don't automatically come with
rebuild kits).

I have noticed this before on games I have shopped and have found the
taller flipper rubbers (height wise) work better on Williams Bally
games. The shorter in height flipper rubbers seem to work better on
late model Gottleib games. Confirm your rubbers are the correct
height. Just a suggestion. John

Yes, many Gotts have a flipper bat with a channel to receive a thinner ring.
If you use a wide one, you will absolutely get airballs off the flippers.
