Actually, Pingeek it really is not off topic. Marty's Playland is part
of that group (see the website). Sad day if it does close. I remember
Trimpers since I was a kid.

I will be in OC over July 4th. Marty's playland has/had a great line-
up of pinball machines. I will update everyone on the pins in the
next few weeks.

Playland or "Sportland" Whatever... they had a Gottlieb woodrail in the
lineup in May. Sadly it ate my quarter and did not start a game. Don't
know what happened to the Bally Star Trek with the original series backglass
that was there for the past several years. Suspect one of you RGP'ers
bought it for the backglass.

Mark,

Please do keep us posted on what pins are there when you get to Ocean
City. I figured the arcade would be mostly redemption stuff like the
arcades at Busch Gardens, and other amusement parks. No pins at all.
All the more reason for me to get to Trimper's this summer if there
are pins there.

Thanks,
Pingeek

Thanks for the clip. Wow! Lotta pins out there. My girlfriend and I
are going sometime this summer to VA Beach, and of course stopping at
Flipper McCoy's, both of them.
http://emporium.turnpike.net/~ntravel/vabeach/flippers.htm

We went to both last year, and it was worth the trip. They had
Monster Bash, Harley Davidson, and a few others, along with many
classic vids as well.

From Virginia Beach, Mapquest shows Trimper's to be maybe a couple
hours past there. So we were thinking on going to Trimper's for a
couple days as well while still on the road, saving a bit of gas
instead of leaving from Richmond just for Trimper's. Can anyone
recommend a decent priced hotel near Trimper's and the boardwalk?

Thanks!

Josh,

Try here:

http://www.fskmotel.com/

It is across the bridge (inlet side) of the OC penisula. But you can
walk to the boardwalk and Trimpers or take a free shuttle or take a 5
min drive and pay $10 for parking. I have stayed there and it is
"reasonably" priced, clean, and quiet.

It is away from the big partying hotels on the boardwalk which is plus
for me but YMMV.

If you go to this area make sure you got the beach on Assetague Island
(National Park) also.

Wow, that's a bummer. I was just there last summer, and it brought
back some great memories of being a kid.

Wow, Went there as a kids many times. Have taken my kids there. When
I took my kids I was shocked and pleased that the place had not
changed in over 20 years.

Interesting what they say is driving the problems - high taxes. Well,
that and the land is worth a fortune, and the shares are spread amoung
14 people - some who just want to cash out.

Sounds like a typical 3rd generation family business problem.

Sorry to hear about the winds of change.

I use to hang out there & on the boardwalk with my family & friends on
the weekends over twenty years ago. I would hide out in the cooler
arcades all day Sunday after getting sunburned badly on Saturday! It
was a great time. Amazing, I have not thought about that past memory
in years.

Here "was" the line-up as of Thanksgiving of 2006.

Hopefully I will see a Spidey this year, as they always would get the
new Sterns in.

Plenty of pins in Ocean City, Maryland though!! From Sportland to Old
Pro Golf, hotel gameroom (the hotel we stay at has a TSPP and LOTR),
Carousel etc. etc.

I used to live in OC during the summers between College (go Terps)
semesters. (albeit over 20 years ago)

It was at Marty's that I turned/flipped my first machine on the
"first" ball of the game. (Stern Meteor)

Here is a link to the pin list in OC:

http://www.fspazone.org/ladb/ladb.pl/Ocean%20City%20MD/

It surely would be a shame to see Trimper's and Marty's go away...
especially Martys :(((((. Sign of the times... the real estate that
the Trimpers carnival type games occupy along the boardwalk
realistically is worth many times what the games gross in a season.
The value estimate for the property is probably spot on. Whatever
happens to it, it would REALLY suck if they turned that entire inlet
into a bunch of yuppy condos. I personally haven't been into Trimpers
rides since I was an early teenager. I do dump a couple bucks into
Martys every year though. Not only do they have pins, but I think
they still have the old nickel and dime style crane machines in the
back!

I don't think Sportland or Fun City are going anywhere though...
Sportland was torn down and rebuilt just a couple years ago.
