Installing Cabinet decals over existing cabinet decals???

I have a HS2 that has the standard cabinet fade.

The $200-$250 for cabinet decals is resonable price.

I cannot justify $600 to have someone intstall these on a 'B' title

If this were a $4K-$5K 'A' title I would go the entire route but it seems a
bit much for a 'B' title.

Too much work to strip, sand, prep, sand, prep sand the cabinet for new decal
install.
(If I had a bunch 'o' free time on my hands I would do it but unfortunately
I do not)

NE1 had any sucess in installing cabinet decals over existing ones.

Not looking for perfection here just resonably decent results.

Can I simply sand down the 'bump' and 'scrathes' on the existing cab and
install new decals and get 'resonable' results?

Any Advice Appreciated.

Thanks

I wouldn't waste the money on new decals if you won't do good cabinet prep.
Any old art work, bumps, ridges, anything on the old decals will come
through and look worse. By the time you get done all the monkeying around,
you'll have more work invested for bad results. LTG :)

I am in the middle of restoring a cabinet on my HSII also, it only
took me a 4 hours to remove the old decals, and sanded the pin to the
wood.

Found plenty of minor damage that was hidden and may have shown
through on new decals

Thanks for the feedback Guys...

Looks like another project for the spring or just learn to look past the

Yeah man, you gotta do it right if you are gonna do it.

Value-wise HS2 might not be that valuable but gameplay-wise it kicks
ass and is worthy of a proper restore.

Second that.

Not sure why it is undervalued...

Have had mine for 3 years and it is staying put...

You're looking at this the wrong way. As a pinball hobbiest if you're
gonna restore a piece of history you've got to do it right. There are
plenty of clowns around doing lousy work, don't propagate the disease.
To a lot of people a faded original is worth far more than a bad
restoration.

I agree with the masses, it isn't worth doing if it isn't worth doing right.

One of my goals for 2008 is to apply a set of decals for myself ;) Just
haven't decided which game yet. My IJ is torn down, and so is my SS. So,
probably one of those.

I got tired of the strip/sand/seal method on the cabinet of a game I
was doing so decided to just sand, fill, primer and decal right on top
of the existing decals on the backbox. The backbox turned out way
better than the cabinet and next project I'm going to do that for the
entire game.

In all honesty I probably lost patience on the cabinet and is the
reason it didn't turn out that great. As far as going over the top of
existing decals, you're not going to have an adhesion issue, and as
long as you do a good prep it will turn out fine.

My .02 anyway...

I don't think you'll be happy unless you do the job right. This means
removing the old decals, repairing cabinet and prepping the cabinet
for new decals. New decals will only magnify any issues and adhere
much better to a properly prepared surface.

For what it is worth, I just finished my first decal application on a
TZ and I'm very pleased with the results. I handled it by myself using
the wet method. Cabinet repair was the most time consuming portion of
the project.

For the person who asked about a helpful video, keep you eyes glued
here. Brian Kelly is working on a restoration video that includes
decal replacement.
