Decent players condition. 95% of the time it works 100%. A couple lane switches don't register. But hey, who doesn't want a playfield with Peg Bundy tied to a chair opposite a monkey. Flippers strong enough to make all the shots. Topper missing. $1200 firm, or it burns. Grand Rapids MI area

For the record, I have burned a pinball machine before due to a powder post beetle infestation in a "Barn Find" Gotlieb Roller Disco.

Honestly, it about killed me to do it. It was my first pin after inheriting one when my dad downsized his house. I drove 4 hours one way in my rusted out pick up to get it. It was literally in a dilapidated wooden barn that had been turned into some kind of private arcade. There was a rotting pool table, several arcade machine with cabinets water damaged, and this Roller Disco missing the playfield glass and backglass. Mice had been on the playfield and in the cabinet. The owner had the backglass at his home, which was another 5 hours away. I did not notice at the time, but there were telltale holes and piles of powdery wood in the cabinet.
After researching here on RGP, and other places for what to do. I ended up stripping all the metal and plastic parts, then burning the wood. I could not risk my house to a pest that could destroy it, and with little kids, I did not want to treat with a toxic substance they might encounter. I eventually drove and got the backglass from the owner. I always thought I might encounter one again someday, and I was so sad I never got a chance to play it. It did teach me a valuable lesson in buyer beware.

VDOJAQ,
I'd be interested in that if I get the machine.
I access RGP through google groups, but when I try send messages to people that option is grayed out, and it says I don't have permission to do that.
Thanks,

Zap - may I suggest another Usenet access than through Google? One that
ties to your email program for example?

https://usenetreviewz.com/free-usenet/usenet-access/

And may I also suggest Thunderbird as your email and Usenet reader? I've
been using TB for a while now, having started with Eudora back in the
90s and moving to TB when Eudora folded up.

John,

I must be a complete idiot, as I have installed Thunderbird and registered with Eternal-September.org, and I am totally lost on how to configure the settings to get RGP. Tutorils I've been able to find show a much different interface than what I see on my screen. I am a cheap person, so I'm trying to do all of this for free.

If I understand correctly, Thunderbird needs to connect to Eternal-September.org, which allows access to Usenet groups like rec.games.pinball. I think I understand that.

Am I setting up an RSS feed or a Newsgroup? I get prompts asking for a URL, and I'm not sure what URL it wants. Things I have tried entering do not get validated.

Any help would be appreciated, or can you just send me the guy's email address that google won't let me see? Google used to allow for this, but must have changed at some point.

Thanks,

See "ThunderBird RGP Setup Instructions" here:

https://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Rec.games.pinball_Access_Methods

That was for a version of Thunderbird several years ago but should be
very similar. Let me know if updates are needed and I can fix the
Pinwiki page.

Kerry,

The issue seems to be that Thunderbird does not ask me for my Eternal-September.org password. I've been playing with the server settings, trying to find a set that works. The wiki says no athentication should be selected. When I try to "Manage Subscriptions" step, it does not ask me for my password. There is no option to enter it. I also do not know what type of security is required, as there are several options available.

I will keep trying combinations of settings. I can get to the Eternal.September.org hierarchy, but nothing else, which according to them means I am not there as a registered user.

Thanks,

Kerry,

Nevermind! I got it to work finally.

When I went to the list of servers. I had to de-select it, then re-select it, and a pop up window came up asking for my username and password for Eternal-September.org.

Thanks for making the Wiki!

Glad you got it figured out. For the record I have "Always request
authentication when connecting to this server" checked. I'm not sure
when I changed that or if it's needed any longer.
