See the side of the bill validator where male pins are in a double row ?
That is where a Mars adaptor plugs into the validator, and the other end
plugs into the Stern 9 pin connector.

New validators come with them. LTG :)

I don't know abut cheap, but you might start with a Mars distributor, like

Lloyd, do you know if the 2511 will work with the cable? I called happ
controls and they told me that they did not think it will work and
that these are for vending machines... and that I need to get AE 2400
or 2600. I would not like to buy the cable if its not going to work. i
already pissed away $300 on these used acceptors at this point.

I would call Mars (MEI) 1-800-345-8172 and ask them about the cable
just to double check. I thought all the cables were the same on the
2000 series (I might be incorrect though).

I just put a 2411 in my pin, not sure the difference from the 2411 to
the 2511.

All of my 2411's came with the harness' and do not have a part # on
them. I did look at happ.com and found this: http://www.happ.com/validators/0902026.htm

Look at the very last part on the page (42-3141-00
250070006 MEI Power Harness for Series 2000 Validators 1+ $17.40)

It would appear that all the series 2000's use the same part #.

Hope this helps,
John

Oops I forgot to add, watch happ on their shipping... I learned the
hard way (#44 bulbs of like $2 and then the clipped me for $7
shipping!!) they do not tell you the shipping, you place your order
and then the bill your card.

So if you can use that part # and get it elsewhere you might be better
off, or if you can find a kind individual that will send you one would
be nice. Sorry I do not have any spares, infact I will be soon
hunting for another 2411 with a harness as soon as I get a coin door
with the BV cutout.

okay. I got the cable adapter and was able to "plug it in" to the
stern machine... when I plugged it in, it made some noises and the
belts moved, but when I try to put a dollar in it does nothing at all.

any ideas? any ideas on how to setup the dip switches?

If you don't have a manual, call Mars. The newer 2400 series upstackers have
the settings on the side. No idea on 2500 series.

Does it take the dollar and give no credit ? LTG :)

I have several of the Mars Bill acceptors you are referring to in my
route machines.

These units were originally intended for Vending Machines (thus the VN
in the name of the unit you are referring too).

Look at the back of the unit while it's plugged in and turne on.
Down near the bottom where the bill goes up into the stacker there is
a small red LED. It should be lit SOLID if the unit is working
correctly. If there are any problems, it will blink however many times
for the error. On the back of the bill stacker there should be a label
displaying how many blinks = error.

If something is jammed in the bill acceptor where the bills go in from
the front this will also cause it not to work.

The bill reader optics are easily removable from the back.
From the backside, near the red LED light I mentioned above. There is
a small horizontal metal bar on the back of the unit. Very carefully
pull up on the small bar and pull it out. This is how you clear jams.

Good luck,
Craig

You'll need an "enable" jumper plug to be plugged into the side of the
acceptor. New acceptors come with this plug. In a vending/pop machine,
the machine closes a few switches in it's wiring harness to "tell" the
bill acceptor that the machine is 'ready' to take money. If you use
the bill acceptor in an "amusement" application then you need to have
that little jumper plug plugged into the side of the bill acceptor.

Of course some bill acceptors have a dip switch setting for "always
enabled" or "harness enabled". Set it to "always enabled".

I think Happ Controls # 42-0225-02 (Mars # 01-12-148) is what you need.

Agreed on that.
Gotta have the jumper plug.

Just to let everyone know, I scanned and sent in the "Bill Acceptor
Installation manual" for Williams pinball machines to
arcarc.xmission.com today. Don't know how long it'll be before it's
posted.
