Struggles with Miss-O first EM

My friend and I are working on our first EM pinball. Picked up a Miss-O
for very little money as the score reel stuck and the motor wouldn't
stop running. We got it to my house, and then cleaned the score reel,
and found that one of the leaf swithces was not opening as it should,
and then we adjusted that and that seemed to get it working.
Now the ball count unit stopped reseting. So we took that appart and it
was very gummy. So cleaned it and it seems to run very smoothly now.
Balls reset and count as they are supposed to.
Cleaned the playing field, and then put everything back together.
So here is my problem.
After playing the game a few times, it seems that the bumpers don't
turn back off at the reset. If you have lit the top bumpers in the
previous game, they just stay lit until a free ball is won, and then
they reset. We investigated all of the leaf swithces, and found all of
them seemed to be correct, coils tested okay. I found switches
elsewhere in the game that did not close when they were supposed to,
they didn't seem to be involved, but I adjusted those. Now the bumpers
still don't reset, the score motor only resets every other time, and
occasionaly at reset 500 points will just score automatically with the
bell going off and everything.
The top pop bumpers should score 1 point when not lit, and 10 points
when lit. The top left and right bumper don't score when not lit, and
score 10 when lit. The middle bumper stays lit all the time, and only
ever scores one point. Oddly enough the left and right bumper pulse
together. I don't know if that is how they are designed to function,
but I didn't notice that before hand, so I don't know if that is how it
is supposed to work, or the result of something that I have done.
I have the schematics, and the manual, but they don't seem to be
pointing me in the correct direction.
Is there something simple that I am missing? Perhaps there is a tip as
to how to approach this further?
Does someone have a working Miss-O that they would be willing to email
me few specific photos from?
Anything anyone can provide would be helpfull.
Thank you,
TSC

Don't get discouraged. You are on the right track.

My best advice is to order the This Old Pinball DVD from here:

http://www.marvin3m.com/top/top1.htm

The cost is something like eight bucks, and the entertainment alone is worth
the price, even if you never open up a playfield again.

As for your specific problem, it is possible that you are adjusting leaf
switches that are supposed to be normally open to the point where they are
normally closed. This is why you seem to be taking two steps forward and one
step back. Some of your switches should be NO (normally open) and some
should be NC (normally closed). If you adjust them all the same you are
bound to have odd behavior!

Buy the video. It will help you understand how things are supposed to work.

To get you started on the right track, the A-B-C-D bumpers on top of
the playfield DO NOT reset when a new game is started...what ever is
lit CARRIES OVER to the next game UNLESS you turn the machine off and
start another game or get a free ball during that game.(thru the
horseshoe in ctr.. When lighting all the rack-o-balls the special
lights on the side drains should light which gives you another op. for
a free ball and will reset the rack) I had a Cue-T which is the AAB
version of Miss O Hope this helps you understand the game play a
little more. Good luck!

Thank you, I can't tell you how much time I've spent trying to get the
lights to all reset when the game resets. If I could get the machine to
stop randomly adding 500 points it would be perfect.

Your welcome! As far as the 500 points randomly scoring...if I
remember correctly( I had a Cue-T that I did a total restoration on and
recently sold) the ctr. roll-thru horseshoe shot gives you 500 points
or a free ball when the horseshoe lights are blinking. Roll a ball
thru the ctr. "horseshoe" and see if it scores 500 points...if thats
what score 500 points your random 500 point scoring problem may be that
the switch underneath may be gapped too close, and when a pop-bumper
pops or any other vibration that may occur from game play, the switch
is making. If thats the case just open the switch a little and
hopefully your problem is fixed. Good luck!
