I use a triangular shaped small file. I have a set of small file that
are different shapes...round, square, flat, ect... But I found the
triangular works best for this.

Have You thought about using a tip cleaner for OxyAcetaline welding
torches...
It's a Micro sized set of round files that come in a small case....
(get from welders supplies)
also,, the Product Kemtronics 2000...
It's a spray can that cleans electical contacts, removing oxydized
deposits and safe on plastics..Works great..
Followed up with an application of electrical grease...

I use a very small diameter wire brush.
When you twist the brush it will fit into the
female jones plug holes.
see below for an example

I've done this too and it's worked really well for me in the past.

Or you could convert to Molex connectors. :P

Howdy,

Cleaning Jones Plugs is a necessary evil but it sure is time consuming
and boring. I have not yet spent the time to clean the female plug
but I always cleanup the male plug. While the sandpaper does a good
job, I have always wondered about a tool. The best idea I have come
up with so far was to drill a hole in the middle of a light socket
cleaning stick, then push that over the male pin and spin just as you
would cleaning a socket. I'm not sure how well it would work or how
long it would last. I keep meaning to order an extra light socket
cleaning stick to experiment with but I keep forgetting to include it
in a PBR order.

Suerte,
MrMarco

Oh yeah...shoulda mentioned this...

I quit using the sandpaper on the male ends just for this reason...too
tedious. I use a rotary tool with the wire brush attachment for
this. The flat one...dremel #428 maybe?

I have found that using Dow Corning #4 Electrical grease really does a
good job of improving electrical connections on all types of
plugs/connectors. We use this stuff on every junction in most pins and
jukeboxes we work on and it really reduces call-backs.

So, once you have cleaned the connection (tiny round wire brush) use
the #4 to protect the connection.

I've thought about carrying that electrical grease because I use it
myself to keep bulb sockets working well. I guess I'll order some for
the site and see how it goes.

Howdy,

When you say Electrical Grease, are we talking about something like
the Lube Gel that was sold at Radio Shack?

Thanks,
MrMarco

No. This is different. I have the replacement for Lube Gel already on
my site as Super Lube Teflon Grease. The electrical grease is
specifically to prevent corrosion and enhance electrical contact. I
find it useful where there are dissimilar metals in the electrical
connection, like brass base bulbs in tin plated sockets.

I think the last time I did that I took some medium grit sandpaper and
rolled it up very tightly to the size of the male prong, then stuffed it
into the female side a few times. I spun it while moving back and forth.
Seemed to work ok...

I bought a .17 caliber rifle/pistol cleaning brush from Bass Pro
Shops. It fits nicely into the female side of the Jones plug. Put it
in a drill...spin for a few seconds...clean as a whistle. Basically
the same as someone else already mentioned (small wire brush). Just
another easy source. Most gun shops should have them.

The female connector; I use a pair of needle nose pliers to tighten
the connector. If you look closely on how the connector works, it has
two edges that actually grab the male end. That is what I tighten. It
has fixed many intermitten problems.

I think shoving something in there will actually loosen that female
connector.

I spray contact cleaned on the female ends and then use the pliers.
