Judge Dredd Deadworld mod problems...

Hello pinheads,

I ordered the JD Deadworld mod from Pinbits (the mod without the extra
board).
It all installed easily enough (ROM and new ring) but the game is
playing like it is possessed.

During multiball when there are 2 balls left if one drains the
considers the other ball drained.
Random balls launch during multiball, etc.

I have spent a considerable amount of time testing my ball trough and
filing out some divots
(not sure there was a problem or not).

When running diagnostics I cannot get the switches 61 or 77 to
register. I have disassembled
things to get at the U-shaped optos and cleaned them. I could see
that the light was on.

Any ideas? Tips?

Thanks,
/Ed

The game will lose the balls if they don't go through the ramp opto's.
If they roll off the front of the DW or the balls aren't picked up.
It'll mess up and lose the balls. Spitting two balls out and also ending
multiball early.

Adjust your ring and the hight of the arm.

I was suffering from the same thing. Also, where is your ramp entrance
opto? Just up the ramp or about 8" to 10" up the ramp?

The L1Sp ROM changes what he reads as switch 67 and 32 I believe.

That sounds like crane trouble. It is kind of annoynig because you
have to watch for it while you are playing, and if it fails you miss
it!

While we are talking JD, I have a ring alignment issue that I can't
suss out, even with Martin's page.

The problem is that the ball stops under the crane magnet, but not
exactly under it. It's close enough that the magnet can get it... but
over time I am worried it will drift even farther. The ring can be
loosened and rotated but there's no room left in this adjustment.

Is there another way to just nudge the ring a bit? If this is done in
the ring test mode, I can't figure it out.

You need to rotate the opto collar on the ring motor shaft. That
defines where the ring stops. Loosen the set screw slightly, rotate a
fraction by hand, and test until you get the right location. That will
give you room in the ring adjustment screws.

Martin,

I may have done irreparable damage to the "interrupter" part but
unintentionally
gouging out the set screw. I think I over-tightened it and cracked
the interruper.
Sadly I can over-tighten ANYTHING!

I've removed the upgrade kit for now. And the game plays fine using
the original ring.

If I was to attempt this again and get a new interrupter, what exactly
has to be
removed to get the interrupter off?

When doing the diagnostics, when doing the arm adjust test, the first
ball does
not end up under the magnet. What adjustment do I make (is it the set
screw
and rotate the interrupter) to get this to work? I'm somewhat
clueless...

Thanks,
/Ed

OK. First stop is the hobby store, where you are going to buy a bottle
of Ambroid or equivalent. This is a very thin plastic adhesive that
will fix up your interrupter ring. Just let it wick into the crack,
works like magic.

Next. Hand tight + 1/4 turn. Good rule for almost everything except a
flipper bat shaft.

You have to take the planet off to get the interrupter out. I seem to
remember cracking the planet open (care recommended), then you can get
to the necessary screws to release it.

The coarse adjustment is the interrupter disc. The machine uses the
slots to stop the motor in the right place. The adjustment slots in
the planet ring are for fine adjustement once the location is in the
zone.
