I posted way back in May of 2012 when I started this project on RGP..
but I never really followed up here until now...

In an unprecedented move, the code update I made to Data East STAR WAR
was officially released by Stern Pinball on December 24, 2012.

This 20 year old classic game has gotten a completely newly balance
rule set, additional sounds, timed ball save functionality, and muc
more. The age old complaint that the ramp shot was overpowered has bee
addressed. STAR WARS is no longer a one-shot game. Many of th
suggestions came directly from the community. The feedback sinc
release has been overwhelmingly positive. STAR WARS has a whole ne
life now. This update has been dubbed The 20th Anniversary Edition.
All that is needed to experience this update is to swap out one ROM o
the MPU board.

Full details about the update can be found here:

Thanks,
Cha

Very cool. I don't have the game, but I can appreciate how much work was
involved. Did you have access to any original code or programming tools, or
was it all object code patches?

No access to any original code. Worked backwards by first disassemblin
the ROM with PinMame. All updates were assembly op codes typed into
hex editor by hand after converting them to their equivalent he
values.
