Welcome to Usenet, the wild wild west of the Internet, as a rule there
are no moderators and no censors. Google has invaded this world which
has brought a number of spam artists.

The best thing is to get a Newsreader, subscribe to a Usenet service,
Eternal September is free, and use your kill files to eliminate the
nonsense.

I like Thunderbird as a newsreader.

You don't see this on Pinside or Mr. pinball newsgroup's same rule should apply here!

Well this is Usenet, not a website forum like Pinside or Mr. Pinball,
totally different, here you moderate your own view which is why Google
Groups suck.

Thunderbird reader and Eternal-September allows me to killfile the drug
dealers and other idiots so I only see actual Pinball posts.

Usenet also eliminates the soap opera around moderators and there's no
button begging for donations.

Welcome to the Wild West that is Usenet.

Totally unmoderated - and impossible to moderate if they (who is this
they now?) wanted to. It rides on the backbone of the Internet and is
just as wild now as when I first heard about it in the mid-90s. Usenet
has been running since late 1989 or so if I am not mistaken. Used to be
pretty much all university folks here as universities had the access,
then ISPs (Internet Service Providers) started carrying it to entice
people to join their service. However perhaps ten or so years ago ISPs
started dropping access to Usenet and so folks had to join Eternal
September, GigaNews and other providers to continue getting it.

It is a small, but friendly crowd, is RGP (rec.games.pinball) - used to
have hundreds of messages a week back in the day...

There are moderated news groups:

Right, and I used to sent the odd joke to the moderator of
rec.humor.funny - which was moderated - and even had one or two
published...

The stuff you forget!

There isn't one.

RGP is on Usenet, not the Internet, where most people now access it on Google, which is also on the internet.

It used to be you used a newsreader to read RGP on Usenet. Usenet I believe started out between universities and colleges and gave birth to everything else.
